So much! 1/28/09

So much to do and so much I'd like to post about. I may have to start posting on the weekends to keep up.

There is the Culture Clash performance and I sat close to some very prominent Hispanic advocates. When we said hi I spoke to them in Spanish and they would only talk in English. Very funny considering they are the "Spanish" types who openly go rounds with me about the Indigenous heritage stuff. Then the white folks behind me complaining about the Raza that was buzzed and talking a little to loud for theater. They even were giving the "I almost went over there to say something" line. Then after the show there was a discussion with the artists and they wouldn't shut up. Very amusing in the irritating way.

There is going up to the State Legislature and all of my changes in wearing a suit. It had been a long time. The part that made it fun was going on the Senate and House floor and seeing the reaction of people who knew me. Sen. Keller was all "Look at you!" And a couple of representatives looked at me, noticed the suit and said, "Hey! It's great that you are going to be working up here." Apparently the suit gave it away. Being a lobbyist felt strange, but overall I think it will be fine.

I think things are stable with the family. I'll just be working on keepin up with everything and moving forward. The challenge will be remembering to say no at the right time. Oh, and I re-learned how to tie a tie yesterday!

1/23/09

So the tax break for the workers is going to take awhile. The koolaid is starting to taste a little sour already. And instead of repealing the Bush Tax giveaways that will be on hold for awhile as well. OK, I'm grouchy today - a little more than usual. I'm still very happy that we have the first African-American president.

The Anti-Racism in Education Candidates forum was a great event! Many of the candidates showed some real misunderstanding of racism. And one, showed great understanding. Lorenzo Garcia really put it out in a strong way. I hope his election is running smooth.

KEEP LEFTING!

Not Moved

Hoped I'd be moved by the inaugaral speech today. Have to say it didn't move me. Apparently it didn't move all of my friends either. It wasn't bad, just didn't move me.

Could be that my hopes are WAY to high...

But here's something to lighten the mood...

Hopefully today will be the start of better times. It still looks like things will get worse before better. Hopefully not.

The first African American president is a big deal no matter what.

It is very cold! I'm feeling better but have rehearsal tonight, so possibly no gym time. I have a meeting tomorrow after work also. Hopefully I can make it to the gym over the weekend!

Having a hard time getting back into the work flow! My table will be full, working, managing people, and now adding lobbyist!

I'll still try to workout and play music, hang with the familia, and help my friend with his campaign. He got himself a dedicated campaign manager. Now we just got to get a good turnout for his event on Sunday.

Will post more later.

1/6/09 School Board

I have been thinking about how to help my friend run for School Board. I don't have the time I think he needs for me to be his campaign manager. But I've been pondering.

Then I was thinking about my run School Board in '99. Then I realized that I got 16% which not a close race is definately not bad against an incumbent. So even though it was non partisan the paper still prints your party affiliation - so against a Democrat and a Green I did alright...

Got a great compliment from a friend who suggested I be the campaign manager. I got to talk to his son about doing some community work. It was great.

Its been a good day. Going to take a break before the next meeting.

Wow it is cold today!

I went to lobbyist training yesterday. It was good to listen to people talk about the Richardson stuff. While he is innocent until proven otherwise, he normally fights hard for what he wants so his "voluntary" withdrawal appears suspicious. He normally gets what he wants even if he needs to step on people to do it.

We'll see how that progresses.

Then there is the mayoral race. It should be an interesting year in the Duke City!

I'll try and go for a walk later when it is hopefully warmer!

1/5/09

Hope everyone had a great new year start. I think my family did. Had a nice trip to Santa Fe on the train and I worked out some over the break.

Too bad about Bill. Now WE'RE stuck with him. Interesting about these "pay-to-play" Governors - guess I can't sit back and think only the Republicans are crooked.

And what's up with our new homeboy? He's still talking about tax giveaways. Can't run a shop without income. It is amazing how right the "center" is.

Well, keep lefting!!! AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
