Llorona Loca

The Old School Version! One of the first songs I did with my kids. Did it for Dia de Los Muertos.

10/26/09

It's getting cold! Time for a jacket. I think it is mostly because of the wind.

With the leg and back pain getting better I should be lifting again soon. I realize that I'm just going to have to keep slowing down. Stretching, walking and lifting will have to fit together.

That and practicing and doing homework. It will be a challenge but I should be be able to squeeze it out. This weekend coming up is Dia de Los Muertos! Little rest until the next weekend, but it is usually fun. It is hard to tell which is my favorite holiday - DDLM or May Day.

I think it was May Day until I started asking myself, "why do we do so much more to honor our dead than we do to keep people alive?"

That lead me to focusing on organizing around political work, even though the cultural work is so important...

10/19/09

Had a good weekend. Missing the kiddos. One is off to college and the other isn't home much.

I slept until 10AM both Saturday and Sunday. I'm either burned out, sleep deprived, or all of that together!

I have lots of meetings today and going to try and finish up my stats homework. Noticed that I've been feeling less pain lately. After about a year and half! Very pleased about that.

Happy Birthday Reyna!

Thanks for the comments on here.

For some reason decided to go ahead and play keyboard with the reluctant band. Suddenly they were like, "aren't you bringing your keyboard?" So I did.

First of all, all of the music was seeming a little easier for some reason. Then when I got on the keyboard I realized - hey, this really is easier. So another reason to stop being hard on myself. (Besides that it is a waste of time)

So much to do it is fun and challenging. I've been walking more. I can tell where my body has lost lots of range of motion. So I'll be doing lots of stretching and lots of walking.

Bueno, just thought I'd check in quickly.

Well things are staying hectic. But I think overall life is good. I had some semi confirmation that I may be a PTSD person. Not surprising and not necessarily bad. Explains some of the hyper-vigilance and responses to certain things in my life.

School seems to be going well.

I just have to keep from being frustrated with work. One day I am micro managed and the next day told that I have full leeway!

10/07/09

Well it seems like I'm doing OK in grad school. Waiting for my first Biostatistics exam grade and FINALLY got some feedback on my writing for Community and Psychosocial Aspects of Health.

Hopefully, keeping up will not be too bad. Now that I have feedback I can relax and know exactly what to work on. Since I'm only using the computer's calculator some of the stats stuff is a pain. I haven't figured out how to use Calc (the openoffice.org equivelant to Excel), nor the freeware winpepi program that is recommended in the book.

My instructor seems quite happy to let me work this way. Hijole...

I've decided to focus my reviews for other classes on Community Empowerment as a health goal.

Been walking more, feeling a little better. With my workout partner gone, I haven't seen the gym for awhile.

I'll need to get back on that!

Oh, and what an interesting election. Progressives gonna have to work it to make progress.

Well it is election day. Yesterday my DOG got a flier from the mayor. It actually has our address and the dog's freakin name. If you can afford to send mail to pets (I know it was for the pet owners) I think you should save paper!

Well we'll see how the election goes. Remember to go vote!!!

Other than that, I've been trying hard to keep up with family, homework, music, work, and this blog. Obviously the blog hasn't been doing as well. But I'm caught up with my homework until Saturday because I'm going out of town. I'm currently blogging from a fast food place because they have wireless. I haven't been out of the office for lunch in a long time.

My current musical project is to learn songs on the button and piano accordion. I'm just learning the button, but there are tons of videos on youtube. The one I have is in A, so I'm starting with Rinconcito en el Cielo that one of the bands is actually learning like the original!!!

I figure getting it on the button will help me figure out some of the sounds I can't get on the piano and see if they really are so different. I think I need to look at it as playing two different instruments.

Bueno - been reading a lot of public health stuff for some strange reason! LOL and I'll be sharing reflections... someday!

Gandhi's Birthday 09

Today is Gandhi's birthday. He was really big into self help so I don't know what he would say about Universal Health Care. I'm guessing he would have supported it as a means to reduce suffering.

Also, one of the bands I play with proposed learning the Albert Zamora version of Puño de Tierra - which would have been a huge leap for the whole group. Last night they balked. Unfortunately, I expected it. I didn't even take the keyboard over. Did have a quick talk about it with the bass player - he thinks it would add a lot.

Oh well. Time to go on to being peaceful! Going to try and finish a TON of work by Sunday night so I don't have to try and finish it while I'm out of town.

Things are hectic. I think I am doing OK in school. Sounds like A is doing well in school also.

Having problems with scheduling and people wanting to avoid being inclusive... go figure...
