August 28, 07

Did an abs class and a cardio workout yesterday. I also maxed on Squats at 355, Arm Curl 95, I stayed with the leg extension at 155 and went down on the leg curl to 75. I'll do a weight workout this afternoon.

Also started texting with "Smacking" today.

Had momentary doubts about this blog since there hasn't been a comment for awhile. But figured what the hell, I know people read, there probably isn't much to discuss....

Three Tips for the Price of One!!!

Today is the end of the fitness challenge. I will be following up regardless of how I did. I don't think I lost pounds, but hopefully I look at least a little different. I'm definately stronger.

I'll go back to toning up for about a month or so to let my body recuperate from all of the heavy lifting. So mostly cardio, but still keeping the lifting going and going up slowly in weight, but at a more moderate pace.

OK, here's your tips, and remember KEEP LIFTING CABRONES!!!!!

Eat This for Better Blood Sugar
When you want to grab a blood-sugar-balancing snack, which is better: a fresh apple or a slice of rye toast? Go for the bread -- as long as it's whole grain. Getting about 17 grams of grain fiber a day (the kind found in whole-grain breads and cereals) could slash type 2 diabetes risk by a third, research shows. And rye bread seems to steady blood sugars best.

All About WOMEN: The Best Calcium Source
Tablets, chews, fortified juices, dairy products -- where should you get your calcium? One recent study suggests dairy is best, with a calcium supplement thrown in for good measure. In the study, women who got at least 70 percent of their calcium from dairy -- and the rest from supplements -- had better bone mineral density than the supplement-only group.

All About MEN: Prostate Health? Mission Possible
Evading prostate cancer could be a little easier if you'd put more of these on your plate: cruciferous vegetables. Turns out sulforaphane -- the compound that makes the veggies in this family taste a little bitter and smell a little funky -- can help disarm prostate cancer cells before they do any damage. Here's the cruciferous lineup.

Team Green (and White)There's no surefire way to prevent prostate cancer. But your risk is greatly affected by your diet and everyday habits. For example, how much broccoli you eat. And how much cauliflower. These veggies -- along with cabbage, kale, and bok choy -- belong to the cruciferous family, and research shows that this family may put the kibosh on prostate cancer like no other veggie group.

Just Add Water!!!

To Weigh Less, Just Add This
Here's the deal, dieters. You'll make great strides in your effort to lose weight if you get a little extra of this past your lips: water.

Upping your daily water intake by 33 ounces -- that's about 4 additional cups -- could help you melt an additional 2.5 pounds over the course of a yearlong diet. Here's the simple science behind the claim.

Water, Water EverywhereWhen researchers evaluated the water-drinking habits of overweight women who were following various popular diets (from Ornish to Atkins), water intake helped tip the scales in the right direction. The women who either upped their water intake or replaced sweet drinks with water lost about an extra 2.5 pounds. But it had to be water: Switching to or adding diet drinks didn't have the same effect.

Why Water's GreatSo how does H2O give dieters an edge? It may be that drinking water helps reduce calorie intake -- you're full of water, so you eat less! It could also be that the agua alters your metabolism in some helpful way. Just keep in mind that drinking water, by itself, doesn't melt pounds. The women who benefited from the extra H2O were already on reduced-calorie eating plans.

Was feeling crappy this morning, but figured since I was going to Max test on Friday, I'd workout heavy today, and moderate and light on Tuesday or Wednesday in order to recuperate before trying super heavy on Friday.

So I did bench press today:
135x5; 185x3; 205x2; 225 for two partials, I was not sure I could get them back up and that's not good without a spotter that can help you get it off your neck! LOL! Then I did 185 for 10.

I did Pulldowns also:
80x10; 100x5; 120x1; 130x1; 140 for two partials, just because I couldn't get it all the way down!!!

The rest of the week will be lighter and also focusing on the elliptical machine. I came in at 189.2 today. Down a little from yesterday. The lightest I've weighed myself in the last 11 weeks is 188.0 - hopefully I'll be below that by Friday!!!!

I'm maintaining my waist at about 40" - so I'll be trying to bring that down. Didn't workout this morning because I was wiped out from a birthday party and jamming with Manchita at Blue Jeans! I'll be out there next week too!!!!

So here's the pics I have for now...

File Under "To Hell In A Handbasket"

OK, no comments lately, hopefully someone is out there, if not this is a good exercise anyway.

So are we going to hell in a handbasket? Worse yet, is without a handle?

Check out news about the NSA and mortgages. Not related directly, but still impacts on a good portion of us. Especially the net surfer types!

Mid Max

Been sick, but tried some max stuff anyway.

My bench went down to 225 (from 235) and my squat up to 350 from 305!!! My lat pull down was 120, now it is 130. Hopefully I'll get that up to 140. Since I was sick and really pushed the squats, we decided not to push everything. On the 24th, or close to then, we'll get the rest done!

I seemed to have increased weight also. I got back up to 191.8, so I'll be focusing on short, low-rep workouts and lots of cardio for the next couple of months!
